What are the advantages of setting up the EdCast integration?

Your company may already have access to the Blue Ocean Brain platform. With the addition of a BOB integration with EdCast, you can enhance your BOB experience to meet your learning goals for your employees:

  • Create a one-stop-shop. With the addition of the content integration, your learners can access BOB content directly within EdCast so that employees find the lessons and articles where they are already completing learning. Your learners will still be able to access the BOB platform to take advantage of the brain exercises, leaderboard, and Library, but this provides an additional method for employees to find BOB content for their just-in-time learning needs.
  • Incorporate BOB data into your EdCast reporting. BOB does have downloadable CSV reports available within the BOB Reports Admin portal that can be leveraged for reporting. By enabling the BOB integration with EdCast, the completion data will automatically appear on the lessons/articles in EdCast for your learners, and you as a leader can see your employees' BOB metrics available within the reporting area for the completion of all the content within your learning system.

How does the EdCast adapter sync content from Blue Ocean Brain to EdCast?

The Blue Ocean Brain app maintains and controls the EdCast integration through a one-way sync, with BOB writing to EdCast's public API in real-time.

New/Current Content

As content is added to your company's Blue Ocean Brain Library of content, the Lessons are automatically added to EdCast.

Retired Content

When Lessons are retired from Blue Ocean Brain, the BOB team will send you the retired Lessons to be removed from EdCast.

How will the Blue Ocean Brain content display and function within EdCast?

Once the EdCast integration is set up, the Blue Ocean Brain content will display within EdCast. How you configure your content in EdCast (i.e. whether to send in Lessons, Articles, or both; whether to send Articles as a course or Lessons as a course) will determine what content may appear in the search results and in which format.

The Learner experience will be as follows:

  • The Learner may search for Blue Ocean Brain content within the Search bar.
    • When Blue Ocean Brain content appears within the search results, the Learner will select a Lesson or Article.
    • The Learner, after selecting BOB link, will be directed to a new tab that opens to the BOB Lesson.
    • Once the Learner reads all three Articles and answers the Show What You Know Questions, the Learner's completions will be sent over to EdCast in real-time.
    • The Learner may then view their completion of the Lesson on the EdCast page.
  • The Learner may select Blue Ocean Brain under the Featured Providers section of EdCast.
    • When the Learner selects Blue Ocean Brain under Featured Providers, a new window will open.
    • The Learner will be directed to the Blue Ocean Brain dashboard, where the Learner may see the most current Lesson, the Library of content, Bookmarks, My Profile, and other company-selected features, such as the Leaderboard or My Learning sections.

What needs to be enabled prior to setting up the EdCast adapter?

SSO authentication needs to be set up with BOB. Your BOB IT contact will reach out to you to set up the BOB SSO profile. Here is more information regarding the SSO setup process with BOB.

What are the steps to set up my EdCast adapter?

The following steps will need to be completed for each EdCast tenant you set up with Blue Ocean Brain.

Step 1: Reach out to your EdCast rep to set up the EdCast integration.

If the EdCast rep isn't already involved in the adapter setup, you'll need to contact the EdCast rep to begin the integration.  Be sure the EdCast rep knows that BOB will need read and write access for the integration.

Blue Ocean Brain supports two integrations with EdCast:

  • Catalog
  • Content completions

This integration does NOT support "Required Learning."

Blue Ocean Brain should be set up as a Featured Provider.

Step 2: Contact Blue Ocean Brain with the details of your EdCast integration.

Once SSO has been set up, send the following information to your Blue Ocean Brain Client Success Manager or Blue Ocean Brain IT contact:

Note: A Blue Ocean Brain "Course" or Lesson consists of three Articles.

  • Client ID
  • Client Secret
  • Which content types you'd like to host in EdCast. The options are:
    • Lessons
    • Lessons AND Articles
  • How you want the content to flow into EdCast. The options are:
    • Send the overall lesson in as a Lesson and the articles as Articles: This is the typical setup.

    • All content flows in as Articles.

    • All content flows in as Lessons: This is the setup when the Client only wants the overall topic to flow into EdCast.

  • Do you want completion metrics sent to EdCast? API sends over completion data in real-time.

Step 3: Confirm the test Lesson in EdCast.

Once the Blue Ocean Brain team has set up the integration on their end, they will push in a test board/Lesson, and they will provide you with the name of the Lesson.

Search in EdCast to find the Lesson and make sure to complete the Lesson and check to see completions.

Let your Blue Ocean Brain Client Success Manager, Blue Ocean Brain IT contact, and EdCast rep know whether or not the test worked. They will troubleshoot with you if you experience any trouble.

Step 4: Confirm that the Library of content is available.

Once you confirm you are able to successfully test the board/Lesson, the Blue Ocean Brain team will confirm with you if you are ready to receive the whole Library of content.

Once the Library is pushed into EdCast, confirm that you are able to see the Library on your end.

Step 5: Confirm that the completions have passed over properly (if needed).

Once the Library is pushed into EdCast, if your Learners have already been using Blue Ocean Brain without the EdCast adapter, your BOB team will need to push in the completions of the content completed in the past. They will let you know once this is completed.
