How do I generate a SSH key in Workday to connect to a HSI Blue Ocean Brain SFTP?

SFTP servers created by HSI Blue Ocean Brain require key-based authentication to access. You can generate a SSH key pair via Workday to share with the HSI Blue Ocean Brain Support Team for authorization.

HSI Blue Ocean Brain may have set up a SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) server for securely sending employee data to create and manage your organization's Blue Ocean Brain accounts.

If your team has automated the employee file transfer from Workday, you will need to generate a SSH key pair using Workday (and provide this key to the HSI Blue Ocean Brain Support Team for authorization) to access the SFTP.

Below are the steps to generate your SSH key pair in Workday, as well as how to provide your public key to HSI Blue Ocean Brain for authorization.

How do I generate a SSH key pair in Workday?

To generate a SSH key pair, log into your Workday instance as an Admin and search for the task, “Create x509 Private Key Pair.” Generate a x509 Private Key Pair. This will generate both a private and a public key.

Note: DO NOT provide your private key to anyone. If someone asks for your key, they are requesting your public key only, never your private key.

How do I share the public key with HSI Blue Ocean Brain?

To share the public key with the HSI Blue Ocean Brain team, you'll need to copy the public portion of the RSA-SSH formatted key. Do not include the comments, (--BEGIN SSH2 Public Key--).

Then, convert the public key to OpenSSH format (the key will need to start with “ssh-rsa ”). Save the public SSH key.

Create an encrypted email and send the public SSH key to  the HSI Blue Ocean Brain Support Team. Once the HSI BOB Support team confirms that they have authorized your key, you can then test adding a file to the SFTP site.
