What are the steps needed to change my single sign-on NameID or SAML subject to a different value for my Blue Ocean Brain SSO profile?

To ensure your users can continue to access BOB, we will need to update your SSO profile and your users' records in BOB to contain the new NameID/SAML subject.

The NameID, also known as the SAML subject, is used to map users to create accounts in Blue Ocean Brain. The NameID mapping is required to enable SSO access to different applications.

The Blue Ocean Brain system defaults to using a learner's email address as their NameID. However, to avoid duplication of accounts when the email address is updated (e.g. in the event of an email formula change or name change), using a more static identifier (such as Employee ID or UPN) can be preferable.

If you are currently using email address or another identifier and need to switch to a different identifier, follow the steps below:

  1. The BOB team can provide you a list of employees with active BOB accounts.  Add the new NameID/SAML subject value to the employee listing as a column and send it back to BOB so the team can update your user listing.
  2. Once the employee accounts are updated, your SSO team will need to update the value of the current NameID/SAML subject to reflect the desired attribute. Across SSO providers, this is often found in the same area as where you would locate attributes or user assignments.

If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to your Blue Ocean Brain IT contact or Customer Success Manager.
